地球上の乾燥地域と半乾燥地域の70 %近くが、程度の差はあるが砂漠化しているという推定。

砂漠化は地球規模で起きていると認識された最初の大きな環境問題だったので、「砂漠化の危機」がどのように政策上の問題として概念化され、枠組みが与えられ、取り扱われたかが、それに続く森林破壊、生物多様性の消失、気候変動のような環境危機に対する私たちの対応の仕方を多くの形で形成した。

世界の乾燥地が無価値で森林伐採された景色であるという思い込みによって、植民地時代以来、しばしば組織的に、乾燥地の環境を破壊し、多くの先住民族を周辺地域に追いやるという計画や政策が行われた。しかし、先住民族の多くはその土地を持続可能なやり方で使っていたのだ。

現在に完全に没頭して生きることに恐怖を覚える原因は2つある。1つ目は、自分自身の人生に絶望する恐怖を常に抱きながら生きるためだ。2つ目は、楽しい瞬間も儚いものであり、時は止まることなく、全てのものには終わりがあることを知ることにより、自分もいずれは死ぬということを否が応にも知ることになるためだ。（148字）

A little learning is said to be dangerous. We should be careful especially in this era when we can send the information easily. If we show off the uncertain information we gained somewhere as if it were our original information, we’ll definitely have trouble later. Even experts should be cautious because they tend to forget that they are amateurs outside their area of expertise. Now is the time when we can obtain a wide range of information easily and therefore it’s important to reconfirm the importance of acquiring reliable knowledge.

I mean that we can enjoy any kind of music from any country. These days, we can get foreign music through the Internet easily. We may not understand the foreign relics but we can appreciate the melodies.

As you know, all the cultures have their own music. This means that the music reflects the culture. So, even if you enjoy the music, that doesn’t always mean you understand the culture and story behind the music.

Ⅰは標準的な長文読解問題。
Ⅱはやや難の長文読解問題。
Ⅲは標準的な和文英訳。
Ⅳは標準的な自由英作文。
Ⅳの形式の英作文は京大では珍しい。また、Ⅲの和文英訳は例年通り書きにくい。京大レベルの英作文の練習は独学ではなかなか難しい。いい先生を見付けて、添削をお願いしよう。
