In Japan, people’s salaries were traditionally based on their seniority. However, in this era, we should implement a performance-based salary system.
First, those who have higher skills and contribute more to their companies should have the right to obtain higher salaries, regardless of their ages. Especially in computer-related fields, young people tend to have more excellent skills and accordingly deserve better benefits.
Second, a performance-based salary system will make employees more motivated. They will study in order to acquire new skills. One problem which current Japanese companies face is that employees don’t study much after they enter their companies. To address this problem, a performance-based salary system will work efficiently.
In conclusion, we should transition from an out-of-date seniority-based salary system to a performance-based salary system. The latter is the global standard in today’s world.
