It is true that we have to depend on fossil fuels to generate power now. However, I think renewable energy sources can replace them in the future.
First, renewable energy sources are more environmentally friendly than fossil fuels. Fossil fuels produce carbon dioxide, which leads to global warming, and SOx and NOx, which cause acid rain. Therefore, renewable energy sources will definitely contribute to keeping the earth cleaner.
Second, renewable energy sources last a lot longer than fossil fuels. In fact, some scientists estimate that we will run out of fossil fuels in one hundred years. On the contrary, they predict that the sun will last for about five billion years.
Third, the science has advanced and will continue to advance. This means that efficient systems to generate power from renewable energy sources can be invented in the future. There are a lot of needs for renewable energy power generation and therefore scientists will try to invent efficient and affordable renewable power generators.
In conclusion, renewable energy sources can and will replace fossil fuels. In the last century, we consumed natural resources. In this century, we have to find solutions to contribute to the environment. One of the solutions is renewable power generation.
