Our societies have evolved and will continue to evolve with technology. Given this, investment in technology should be a bigger priority for governments.
First, we need to develop technology to address global environmental problems. The most serious and imminent problem is global warming. It seems almost impossible for private companies to develop technology effective enough to deal with global warming. This is because private companies can’t get enough profits through such technology, Hence, governments should invest in this field.
Second, technology to combat viruses is vital. Currently, all the countries are faced with the threat of Covid-19. However, there is no medicine which eradicates Covid-19 immediately. To protect all the people from such viruses, governments should promote the research on medicine.
Third, governments should offer grants to research institutes which conduct long-term research. These days, more and more research institutes focus on short-term research. However, as some renowned researchers point out, we need not only short-term but also long-term research because the latter has a potential to improve our lives dramatically.
In conclusion, increasing investment in technology is imperative for governments in terms of global environmental problems, medicine, and long-term research. The more sophisticated technology will surely ameliorate our lives in the future.
