There are some benefits to host Olympics but Japan will not benefit overall from hosting the 2020 Summer Olympics for the following three reasons.
First, Japan has to invest a lot of money in buildings for sports. Not only construction costs but also maintenance costs are huge. These buildings will become less popular after the Olympics and we will not be able to use them effectively. The disadvantages of constructing such buildings will outweigh the advantages. In fact, most of the countries which hosted Olympics have faced the similar problems.
Second, some athletes, especially those who play outdoor sports, will criticize the 2020 Olympics because it is too hot in Tokyo. Tokyo isn’t a proper place to play outside especially in summer. Some athletes may give up participating in the Olympics and it will not be successful.
Third, if Japan hosts Olympics, the Japanese government will be harshly criticized by human rights organizations. Before 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Chinese government promised to stop the suppression on minority people. However, the Chinese government still continues repressing minority people. The Japanese government must make the Chinese government keep the promise before hosting 2020 Olympics.
In conclusion, there are many disadvantages for hosting the 2020 Summer Olympics. Japanese government should give up hosting it.
