I do not think Japanese government should support dam building. However, there are some people who support dam construction. One of such people is Igor Beever. He mentioned in his article in 2020 that building dams may contribute to alleviating floods and landslides. This idea may be essential in some countries. However, here is Japan and there is one thing we have to consider: earthquakes. Dams are said to cause massive earthquakes if constructed and managed inappropriately. I think you remember a huge earthquake which hit Ding-ri, Tibet last month. Near the epicenter are several dams, which some specialists say caused the earthquake. In summary, earthquakes are one of the most important factors when constructing buildings in Japan. To prevent earthquakes from occurring, Japanese government should take advantage of other power generation methods than hydroelectric power generation, which entails dam construction.
